The design of the card are based on combination of the year of Metal Tiger and the beautiful Chinese calligraphy art. Although the message conveyed from the interactive greeting card as short and concise but the golden brush strokes wishes both longevity and prosperity to the reader of the e-card.

The entire process starts from an initial brainstorming to design sketches. Animation and interactive development are then integrated into the e-card at a later stage.

The biggest challenge in building this site is to maintain the optimum performance across different machine with various setups. The website’s background react to the music that is currently playing. Contents from the website are then retrieved from external sources and to made sure that the filesize are small enough to cater to a wide audience with different connection bandwidth. Another breakthrough in development for the website is most of the objects are constructed via Actionscript 3.0 dynamically without have it pre-drawn and saved into the library.

There is also Facebook-Connect integration on the site where user will be able to post their shout-outs into their account’s wall through the website. The entire development took about 2 weeks on the front end integration and an extra week for fine-tuning of the website.

The core concept to be delivered to the end user is how an interactive agency can deliver a transformation for their client. And thus, through an online engagement such as Augmented Reality, we want the user to experience a surprise in changing a dull and conventional looking site onto a digitally-relevant and engaging website.

The site is graciously adapted the technology from saqoosha’s FLARToolkit. Which then I felt it’s far too complicated to work with until I found FLARManager which is far more robust and flexible for building this site. But that is of course not with a lot of problem because I was building the site on Flash Player 9 which the owner of FLARManager has ceased to put any update on FP9, while working extensively on FP10 onward.

This content which will be accessible towards a touchscreen installed at Fusionopolis, Singapore. User will be able to access it via an online website as well. The gem that lies behind this engine is that it would intelligently check if there is internet connection on client-side, if available, will connect to the online database for all the data such as company profile and logos. When there is no internet connection present, it would get all of the data from existing offline files.

The development of this project took about 1 – 2 month in development from initial take-off towards debugging. The development time is also lengthened due to a bulk amount of time is given on taking care of Green Screen videos of the featured individuals. This involves of keying out the person out of a greenscreen and to be placed into the software.

Every single pixel on the site are manually crafted on Adobe Photoshop.

I managed the entire team as a supervisor, and also occasionally take part in the web designing, from design to technical implementation.

Understanding the client’s need are a crucial part of the project, while fighting towards the deadline. Alas, the site is completed and online on www.sandakanharboursquare.com.my.

The entire production was challenging, with given timeline to complete the entire product and to learn the authoring software as well. The planning on the transitions are crucial and as well to do a lot of debugging/testing.

Interactive menus, dynamic navigation and all of it, and I’ve even thought to share all my happiness of the thing I’ve learnt from this project at myFlashportal (flash development and tutorial portal).

But the main challenge doesn’t lie mainly on the design itself, it’s the post-production of the website. That made me realize there’s a lot of thing I’ve left out. Especially, optimizing the site to use as LESS cpu resources as possible. And also image optimizing. But whaever it is, it’s still hella of a fun job to do. My first fully interactive site for my client, The New Media Award 2005.

The entire production of the project took up around 5 weeks with planning, drafting, design and programming the entire structure. The entire front and backend of the installation was handled by me, together with the setup of the website requiring MySQL database for the comment system.

The installation is a collaborative reactive installation that reacts to user’s voice input to navigate through the interface prior taking pictures. The entire project are to give a throughfully study on an experimental interface utilizing the voice input, benchmarking on how effective and usable it can be for user in developing more usable application in the future.

On the sidenote, the installation requires minimal setup of a webcam, microphone and Flash Media Server 2 on the parent computer.

There are of course restrictions and limitation by the deadline and resources. By looking at various research, it was difficult to set a proper art direction at that time, but the team decided to move on and to promote a more of like a ‘Dummies Guide for…” when we saw books that directs and teach people on what a subject is, for this case, Multimedia Design, for potential student that wanted to join. Fusioning both old ideas and design with the urban and contemporary street styled design, discarding those ‘grungy’ effect, the final outcome of the entire art direction is set.

My job scope ranged from designing the icons for roadsigns to posters, screen interface design, and also DVD Showreel’s title sequence. Was a really challenging job to handle at first, but nevertheless, i learnt a new area of skill in managing an exhibition’s design. Bravo.

The website’s are reevaluated from ground to see how it can be improved from the user point of view, with every single detail are put into consideration, user friendliness and interface usability. This project took approximately one month to finish and it’s one of the most ambitious interactive approach that I have took on so far, despite the tight schedule.

By looking at what Flash8 can offer to developer, I’ve joined into various discussion and brainstorming to decide how the new features can be applied and put in good use to enhance the browsing experience, as you can see from the ‘narrative user guide’ on how they can enter the competition. And also details on transition are put into consideration. A series of posters reflecting the songs that I’ve composed is printed and designed for the event. Free Audio CDs of my songs are also given away to visitors for promotional purpose on my songs.

The website is setup and runs on a WordPress database engine and the theme are entirely custom crafted with some custom PHP engines on the “Latest Competition” column. Besides running PHP and mySQL on the backend. The site’s theme are made to be compliant with web standard and styled with CSS completely.

This will set to be an on-going project seeking to improve for better content and expand. Besides handling the front/backend of the website. I’m also in-charge of the write-ups for the contents on the website.

The project itself took approximately around 2 weeks and most of the communication are done through e-collaboration, instant messaging and email. As you can see, 95% of the contents are dynamically loaded externally to ensure the fastest loading time.

Upon several iteration of changes, we had also came up with the second version of the portfolio built on the flash gallery and XHTML/CSS that focused heavily on semantic codes.

Extra touches on random rotating header on the main page is implemented to ensure user will be prompted with different offer on each new visit.

This articles are suppose to cater for the second issue of this magazine, which features a lot of information on conserving our environment and how we can do our part in making it a better place to be. The launch of the magazine was held in conjunction with Singapore’s Earth Hour.

Besides building the site from scratch using AS2.0, and several custom classes such as Tweener, there is also a widget, and lightweight css site for the press built for spreading the website across the internet.

User will need to role-play as a detective in a series of 3 games to get through the challenge. The whole site is built upon Actionscript 2.0.

Type of game varies from find the item to match the correct answer and finally, a jigsaw puzzle.

Minimal ActionScript were used in this project since the focus relies heavily on the animation itself.

A full featured site is built for this including a comment system for users, gigs listing, photo gallery and even news that is linked externally for ease of update.

Most of the animations are manually animated while the 3D-space within sections are controlled by a Tweening engine from Zeh (Tweener).

It was a challenging task since we’ve to work on a very tight schedule for troubleshooting on the scripts. For this project, Macromedia Flash 8 was used for the entire backend and most of the function are scripted except the animation which are completed inside After Effects. The venue for the installation is set in front of Cold Storage, Ikano Power Centre, P.J.

Technically, there is probably nothing to be proud of since there is a lot of better people out there, however I strongly felt it is one of the sites that I certainly do enjoy tweaking it day and night.

On the other hand, it is also the first attempt in executing an entire site using GreenSock’s TweenMax engine. Hope you’ll enjoy the site
