[Travel] Part 5 of 8, Taiwan

A cozy morning to wake up with after 4 hot sunny days.

The trip today consists tour to :

  • Fisherman’s wharf, Damshui District, Taipei
  • The old streets of DanShui 淡水
  • Outside of Computex 2009 :(

While on the way to the nearest ZhiShan Metro station, we stumbled across all the road signs.

An authentic traffic light.

We had a chance to walk through the neighborhood.

Seems like it is all quiet.

And people getting ready to work.

An usual sight for those lives in the 4 – 5 storey buildings.

More more cow milk.

We stopped by this stall for breakfast before moving on to our journey. Looks interesting and fresh?

It seems like they cook these pig intestines here. Not sure if the rain drops dripped into the pot.

Fresh bowl of fish ball noodle.

And once again, let’s welcome Braised Pork Belly Rice!

From Zhishan to Danshui

Not too far away from the stall where we had our breakfast, there’s this Metro station, ZhiShan.

To make the entire journey for the day easier, we purchased a day-trip pass where there would be an unlimited usage per day.

The destination for the day.

Operating hours of the Metro trains.

Taipei: Dànshuǐ (淡水)

This is right in front of the Danshui Metro station.

We had to take a direct bus from the station towards the Fisherman’s Wharf.

The fisherman’s wharf 淡水漁人碼頭

The Danshui Fisherman’s Wharf

The bus trip took approximately around 20 minutes.

When you alight the bus, there is at least 3 spot for sightseeing that you can look out for.

But apparently most of the time spent at the entrance of the wharf.

And there are plenty of flowers that you can have photography session with.

Though there might be nothing spectacular to some people but it is a great place to catch sunset. On the other hand if you are an avid abstract photographer, this would be a place to spark interesting inspirations.

Dànshuǐ Old Street 淡水老街

Upon leaving the fisherman’s wharf via bus towards the Metro station, with just a near walking distance, you’ll find yourself in the old street.

Much like a tourist attractions due to the amount of foods and the ever famous Iron eggs (鐵蛋).

You can find this at almost every corner of the streets.

Besides from walking around and enjoying the scenery, there’s actually a boat service where you can opt to transport towards the opposite island. Not sure what that place is.

But if you prefer to just move around the street, you’ll glad to stumble across different type of snacks.

And there is still interesting weird ice-cream.

That measured up to 2 inch long.

There are of course souvenirs that you can get from here.

But if you walk towards the end of the street and make a turn back towards the Metro station (much like circling around the streets), you’ll bump into this souvenir shop. I had forgotten the name but apparently they are selling a lot of chocolates and sweets like…

Shaped out of sanitary napkins.

While earlier you might have seen the old street is surrounded on the side by boats and water, but if you take a walk inside, you’ll see there’s even more shop.

Surprisingly, there is some latest movies showing.

Here.

If some of you travelled to Taiwan 2 years ago with me as colleague, you might remember this distinctive friendly uncle that knows almost 5 foreign language to date.

He sells this.

and does this.

But if you are bored with foods, shops and clothes, you can opt to have a look at this temple along Danshui’s old street.

Getting to Computex 2009

I was utterly speechless when I found out on the same month of travel, there is this massive Computex event in Taipei.

So being an excited nerd, I headed out to Taipei from Danshui just to check if I can have a sneak peek on those latest gadgets.

It was a long long trip.

And interestingly, there is a graduation show for interior design students nearby.

And guess what? The day of our arrival in Computex, main entrance, it is only restricted to media/press access only. WTF. And even if we opted to go for the visitor/public access, there is an entrance fee incurred.

Sushi Express

Being disappointed, we headed back to Taipei ZhongShan Underground Metro Mall and satisfy our hunger in this shop, Sushi Express. With every single dish priced at NT$30, you can never stop munching away at those fresh salmons.

Chawan mushi. I had forgotten to take pictures of other foods.

Some collectibles from the shop, yes you need to pay to obtain it.

Bought this Fisheye 2 lomography camera in ESLITE Bookstore, Taipei branch. And that concludes a swift trip on the 5th day.
