[Travel] Perhentian Island, Part 3 of 3

And here we are at the final conclusion of the travel log to Perhentian Island, Terengganu, Malaysia. If you have been reading the previous 2 part of the story, through this 4 day 3 night trip, we had been staying at two places, namely Shari-La Resort and Bubu Resort(pictured below). It’s rather a pleasant trip with this kind of setting, since we did felt that having the 3 days 2 night trip to BuBu only is pretty hectic and rush, though they had made a package that it’s designed for a weekend getaway from the city.

Take a glimpse at what BuBu would offer you in the package. Though the listed item on the board has a list of planned schedule, it really depends on the weather somehow. But you would eventually get to all those places at the end of the trip.

P1040031

For backpackers or tourists from other country, I felt it’s rather a good option they offer on the island with a transfer to various spots in Malaysia. Did I mention that they also provide pickup from Kuala Lumpur to the Kuala Besut jetty in Terengganu for R.M. 700.00? Quite a deal for a van if you have 7 person, R.M.100 per pax for 2 way (If I’m not mistaken).

On the other said, I did mention that there is massage service provided on the island, which is pretty good to have after a hardcore workout on the sea, you would eventually get some back pain or either you could take this to chill out.

Out To The Big Sea

DSC04395

We get to snorkel as a group towards the big South China Sea.

DSC04404

Here’s the tour guide. Call him Peter. A friendly and humurous guy that would keep talking.

DSCN6071

There were several spots we went for snorkelling, and as you can see, it wouldn’t really matter if you do not know how to swim or float on the sea.

DSCN6072

They even prepared floats for you in case you need some help.

Here’s a video on the fishes in action.

DSCN6075

Like this. But one word of friendly message, do not try to garble on too much food for breakfast, or it would end up at the sea for the fish’s breakfast, or lunch, if you get what I meant.

DSCN6083

There’s not really a lot of thing you can bring along, except camera and sandals.

DSCN6086

DSCN6102

If you have prepared bread or loaf in advance, you can bring it down to the fishes and feed them in real time.

That’s a turtle. Breathing.

DSC04426

And they’re trying to catch up with the turtle.

DSC04447

The result? Disappointment. Because the turtle swam like a Ferrari in the water.

DSC04451

As they get further from the island, the water turned blue. Deep sea?

The resort from afar. There’s a small bar on the side of the diving center. We missed that.

Nothing much would be seen as a major change as day passed, you get to see people sun bathing (sometimes naked although rare), swimming, preparing for a dive course and so on.

Going Uphill

DSCN6144

If you are wondering, there would be an activity where you can hike/walk up the hill towards the wind generator on the island. What do you get? A spectacular view of the entire island, from top. The road’s pretty sloppy and has a lot of cracks along the way, so you have to be extra careful. It would take approximately 15-20 minutes for the first time walk.

There is still some construction going on, but eventually as they complete the construction of the jetty on the bottom, you can get a taxi service to here and climb through the stairs (Note, s t a i r s, a lot of them).

Having lunch elsewhere.

P1040027

While it might be logical to have ice-cream on such a sunny beach, it would be almost a miracle if you can find one (at that time). We had no idea why, but came to a conclusion that probably to keep the ice-cream freezed on a long period of time with generator would be a silly idea.

P1040029

It’s really that hot (again) and you have to live with the fact there won’t be fan on the ordinary stalls.

Farewell Perhentian

And so, the trip has reached to an end and we have to wave goodbye to such a beautiful place. As you check-out from the Bubu resort, they would ask for your confirmation of your flight and schedule so they could prepare the boats in advance for your departure.

It’s a speedboat, really speedy that it gets damn bumpy along the ride.

DSC04571

And as usual, we had another 90 minutes ride from the jetty towards the airport.

Dinner before the flight

DSC04573

While waiting for the check-ins counter to open, we walked out from the airport for a quick dine in the nearby restaurant. Guess what they have for speacials.

P1040076

P1040076

  • Patprit Fried Rice
  • 2 Citi Fried Rice?
  • Black PAPER Chicken?!
  • Black PAPER Meat?! (Beef)

DSC04572

While it may come to you as a surprise, but it seems that this food/dish is widely adopted across the state, though we did know black paper is black pepper. Duh.

The airport at night! Bye!

And so I hope that you enjoyed reading the log of the trip. What are your thoughts on this? Would you go to this instead of the overly crowded Redang Island? I’m eager to hear your opinion on this as well!
