dscf4903

It might be come to me as a surprise that I still had these pictures down inside my hard disk, which I was supposed to share this experience out 1 year ago after the trip. In case you are wondering, throughout the enjoy of this journey, is to make an organic soap! Which of course some of you might already seen the end outcome, The Sabun Flower. The entire process of molding and shaping the soap is available for read on this page.

The end product. That are supposed to be placed on the Just Life shop in Ikano Power Centre, PJ for a short period of time to promote their products to the consumers.

We were taken to the actual place located somewhere in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. Pretty suburb area if you ask me. And actually the entire trip consists of  other designers that is taking part in this.

One of the sample soap that we are anticipating. It could come various shapes depending on the condition of it’s being made.

dscf4907

We were given 2 tools in making and storing our end product, one being the mold to hold the hot soap, and the box below.

Custom made by the staff.

The backyard and the workshop/working place.

dscf4908

As soon as we’re there, there is this friendly old man that greets us and brings us into the working place behind the house. While he mentioned that making soap could be easy as 1,2 ,3, it might be hazardous to people if the mixture if not properly prepared! That is because as you can see from the pictures, there are several different bottles laying on top that you can use to determine the final colour and smell, and as well the texture of the soap itself, too little of it would be like you didn’t put anything at all, too much of it will be harmful to to people that is using it.

Once the ingredients is done, mixing will be made through this machine, just like your usual cake-making-machine.

dscf4914

Shortly right after the mixing is done, it is then poured onto this slow cooker for cooking?

dscf4920

Of course probably the cooking will take up to 3 – 4 hours. But the old man is really kind to provide us the cooked material beforehand.

dscf4919

Generally it would look something like this as for the base of the soap. All of us starts from here.

dscf4921

Everyone’s anticipating for their final outcome. There’s tuckloong there (Psst, he’s a male).

dscf4922

While all of us uses the same base, there are various outcome we can make out of it, namely different colour, texture and smell in it!

dscf4935

Everyone’s busy putting all the soaps inside the mold.

dscf4936

Some of soap hand-molded, good for looks, but you can’t really use it in real life.

dscf4938

Of course these are mostly excess from the soaps that we’ll be using, so we are allowed to play with these.

dscf4941

dscf4942

dscf4943

Some of these green grassy ingredients are actually meant to be used to give textures to these organic soaps. But not to extend with filling it entirely throughout the entire bar :)

dscf4937

When the preparations done, we left all these soaps inside the mold to hot sun. It took approximately around 1-2 hours for it to harden itself.

dscf4939

While waiting, we are served with some really cool handmade snacks.

dscf4910

And some really delicious buns made through these stoves.

Hot from the hot stove!

dscf4925

And served with these organic vegetables.

dscf4926

Ingredients made inside. I think if I’m not mistaken, it’s also known as Pitas from the Middle East.

dscf4932

Seems to be everyone’s favorite.

dscf4934

The garden that has all the plants.

dscf4929

dscf4928

I actually have no idea what these suppose to be, moon cakes?

dscf4944

The witty old man gives some speech while waiting for the soap be ready.

dscf4946

And after few hours of waiting, finally the soaps ready to be sliced into several blocks.

dscf4947

Or by using some tools, you can cut it into some really cool shapes that you want.

dscf4949

But generally it would be sliced through this tool.

dscf4951

Looks like layer cake to me.

dscf4952

Some hands-on experience.

And finally the soap bars are done! I’d hope that you enjoy the entire article here on making organic soaps, sure it doesn’t feel as silky as your usual commercial soap, but it’s made from chemicals thats proven safer and tender for the skin. Anyway if you are interested, you can head up to read on The Sabun Flower.
